For those bloggers that adopted, we have a question. What type of cups did you get for your kids? We got a few different types of bottles, but Polina doesnt like them. She just likes to drink from a cup. What were your experiences? Did you teach them to use a bottle, or just stick with the cup? Thx!

She was weaned long ago, correct? I adopted a while back, my baby was six months, she had been weaned the month before and i had a very hard time getting her to go back. I can't tell how old your girl is(its probablhy in the posts somewhere), but I'd guess its been a long time since she's used a bottle. for now I'd use any type of cup or sippy cup she will take. Might have to experiment. If you want to regress her with a bottle for bonding, I'd work on it at home and not worry about it here.
If she was still using the bottle at the orphanage, ask your facilitator to help find otu what type. Then experiment with making the nipple holes bigger or with temperatures. some use really hot, some room temperature. You are just getting aquainted, it will become easier when you know each other better. Good luck!
We used the transition sippy cup to go reverse back to the bottle and it worked great! The same he was on the cup already
We used the sippy cup with a straw and it worked perfectly. If she's not using a bottle now I wouldn't take that step back.
Ava was supposed to have been using a regular cup when we got her at 15 months, yea right! She didn't have a clue what to do with a cup. I brought over 2 different kinds of bottles and 2 different sippy cups. She had no idea what to do with a sippy cup and I don't think she even knew how to suck. I put her on PediaSure vanilla in a bottle with a large hole in it so she didn't have to suck really hard. I was so glad i did. It really helped with the bonding and attaching as she would look into my eyes as I was feeding her. Now she only stayed on a bottle for 2.5 months when we got home, but it was well worth it. I gave her the pediasure at room temperature. Good Luck.
Anna never would take a bottle. I tried several different kinds of sippies and she did "OK" but honestly she just didn't drink much and still doesn't (but more than she did). They don't give them much to drink there I don't think (cuts down on diapers). I actually had the best success with the take-n-toss sippies. Anna still won't really cuddle while drinking. I had these great bonding plans, but she had other ideas. Hang in there....just get her to drink however you can for the moment.
Hi Guys- Congrats, Polina is BEEYUTIFUL!!!!
We had the same issue with Maria, we cut a bigger whole in the bottle and she began taking it with ease. It has helped IMMENSELY with bonding and attachment with both of us. We have had her for 5 weeks now and she is just starting to figure out the sippy cup. When she wants to drink, she wants volume, so perhaps that is part of the frustration/refusal...

Small Fry was 26 months when we got him. We used a sippy cup bought in Russia, since all we brought were bottles and he did not remember how to drink from one. The sippy cup worked for him. I did our bonding time with a spill proof one instead of a bottle. Our newest is still one year old, so he is still taking a bottle. CONGRATULATIONS!!
I agree that regresing her back to bottle is not bad idea...Nadia was 13 months going home and used only a bottle..but only the one with big hole... it took forever to get her relaxed enough to sleep in my arms.. bonding is a strange thing , every child finds its own way, so just try all sorts of things and you will find what works for you and her... and COngratulations, she is one gorgeus girl
